How to Post ASCII Art on Reddit
Reddit supports preformatted text, but the editor mode and subreddit layout affect how a character grid is displayed. Test the rendered post rather than trusting the composer alone.
Use a code block
In the rich-text editor, choose Code Block for multi-line art. In Markdown mode, fence the entire piece with three backticks.
Inline code is only suitable for one-line faces or dividers.
Keep the piece narrow
Aim for roughly 60 columns or fewer so the full silhouette is visible on laptops and narrow panels. Mobile users may still need horizontal scrolling.
Reduce image-conversion density before manually removing characters, which can distort the shape.
Preview before publishing
Use Reddit's preview and check that leading spaces remain. If the art shifts left, the first spaces were trimmed before formatting was applied.
Add a normal-text title or caption so readers and search engines understand the subject without decoding punctuation.
Respect community context
Large art can overwhelm a discussion. Post it where creative or novelty content is welcome and keep replies compact.
When a subreddit strips or wraps formatting, share a PNG and include the plain-text version only when it remains readable.
